The House

William Trousdale and his family lived in this Federal style brick house in the heart of downtown Gallatin for over 70 years and after the year 1900, the home took on several different roles in the community!

The Family

The Trousdale family was one of several influential families in Tennessee in the 19th century and many of the Trousdales and their descendants went on to serve in the military, travel abroad, practice law and business, and even minister to Brazil.

“I was the sharer of his blanket in the tented field, and have seen him in all relations of life; and I am proud to say his whole history, whether in war or peace, show that his heart and actions have adhered to the welfare of his country with the certainty and tenacity of the magnet pointing to the pole…In every civil contest…he has gallantly taken his accustomed position in the front and the hottest of the battle; his colors, although worn, tattered and torn, have never been seen trailing in the dust…and they never will.”

— Josephus Conn Guild of Rosemont on William Trousdale
